Voter Registration Over Time

Each line is a party’s share of all registered voters (party enrollment), from one Secretary of State file per year (the November file where there is one). From 2007 on the counts are active voters; earlier files don’t state voter status. Before 1984 the files on hand are from 1954–1970 and from 1976, 1978 and 1982; the lines connect the files on hand. The 1954–1970 unenrolled share is derived. Minor parties appear only in years they were ballot-qualified. Congressional districts use today’s town lines.
