Seats won in each general election, by partyMaine House of Representatives · 151 seats
Maine Senate · 35 seats
Seats are counted from the general-election returns in this database: every winner in each district, including all members of multi-member districts. Before 1990 winners are as marked in the canvass or, where unmarked, derived from the votes; since 1990 they are the leading candidates on election night. Later vacancies, special elections and party switches are not reflected. The 1944–1950 canvasses print no party for legislative candidates (grey, “party not printed”). The Senate had 32 to 35 seats over the period; the 1984 House canvass on file covers 150 of 151 seats. Independent and unenrolled candidates are counted together as independents; Green Independent and Libertarian seats are shown separately.
